Regulating a car to 3.3 volts

Hi there,

I have a generic car audio head unit which allows for reading of the steering wheel control buttons and mapping them to the unit, the only problem is there is a wire which requires 3.3 volts to make it run, but finding a wire like this in the car is near impossible.

So does anyone know an easy way to regulate the ~13.8 volts to step down to 3.3 volts?

Get an LM2941 automotive rated adjustable regulator then set it up for 3.3 volts.The auto electrical system is a nightmare noise and transient wise. The LM part is made to survive that.

FWIW- This part can only supply 1 amp. Be sure to follow the guidelines in the spec sheet in regards to input and output capacitors.

And Heatsinking! That should be easy; you have 3000lbs of steel to bolt it to...
