Renesas 78K0/KB2

Hello all.

I have been helped greatly with my projects involving microchip PIC in this forum, and I am greatly thankful. Now i have been asked to program a Renesas microcontroller (particularly the 78K0/KB2) and I would like to ask where to start to learn about it.

Do anybody here have any experience with this?

My first question is very very basic: i want to program this in C.

1) What tools are there for this micro? (like for PICs there is the MPLAB).
2) What kind of programmer do I need for this micro?
3) Can I program it on-board? What do I need for this?

Thank you very much in advance for all your responses

Hi Kansai,

I've used NEC (Renesas) 78K0 series microcontrollers in some projects.

Will try to answer your questions:
1) Best (for me) IAR Embedded Workbench: Compiler & IDE.
2) I've used a NEC Minicube2: programmer and debugger.
3) Yes you can, all information on needed signals is in the datasheet and/or minicube2 information.

Remember that only part numbers ending with "D" can be used to debug...

Regards.
