RS 232 Interfacing with PIC

hi all,

For a project that I am on to , I require that RTS (Request to Send) and DTR ( Data terminal Ready ) be set to "ON" , for a certain device (Mobile phone) to work when connected to a PIC. Does this mean I hook it up to +15 volts or is there a more sinster meaning to this.

What could possibly be sinister about hooking up a pair of signals? Rather than hooking directly to a supply I would use a buffer with its input pulled up or down as appropriate so that your outputs, even though constant, behave like RS-232 signals instead of like power supplies.

I'd use a max232 or clone. It happens to have 4 drivers on it so you can use 2 for the data and the other 2 for RTS nd DTR. pretty standard application. read the rather massive max232 data sheet from maximic.com

Somebody cybersquatted on the maxim.com domian name before maxim did and they must have been uninterested in moving.
