Sampling rate in PIC

Hi,
Can you guys tell me the maximum sampling rate that can be achieved using 16F877 micro controller for its in-built ADC?

We are looking for a sampling rate > 5000Hz. Is it possible with PIC?

Have a look at the back of the datasheet, and in the ADC section - it gives all the specs.

But 5000 samples per second sounds easily possible.
 
On the 877 the acquisition + conversion time is 40uS+20uS and so you can sample at max 16KHz. The newer version of this chip, the 16F887, has a smaller sample and hold capacitor which reduces the acquisition time to 5us. This allows conversions at 40kHz.
