Setting fuses ATmega16M1

Hello I am new here and I am a beginner and I have a problem , I am building a controller for an EV from an open resource plan , for this I need to program an ATmega16M1
I use AVRDUDE but the fuse settings are not clear to me in the instructions it says : Fuses : 8Mhz+ external crystal with 0ms startup time , CKDIV8 off , brownout 2.7v
I bricked one chip already because I do not really know what I am doing
Can somebody please help me?

I don't know about the fuses, but I set this AVR Fuse Calculator to your MPU. Maybe you can learn from it.

Thank you Lightium I looked at the fuse calculator before but found it still confusing , so I just did try some of the possibilities, but I did not get the required result , so I persisted trying until I bricked the chip

Look at it and break it down into sections. You got four sections on top and one on bottom with four fields.

Yes I set the fuses and programmed the chip , it went well
Do I have to lock the fuses ?

Only if you don't intend on using the chip for something else.
