Simple L297 Query

Can anyone tell me how many pulses on the L297 Clock would generate One step of the motor? I cant seem to find this information anywhere in the datasheet
 
Also what is the minimum pulse width i Should choose? and how do i find out and rotate the motor at the maximum speed?
