Yep thats what I said. I saw a top add banner today for Trojan condoms while I was here so whats up with that?

Well, as I read this post the ads in the banner are for:

Circuit Simulator ??

UK Chemists Online Best price Clearblue Pregnancy Test Kits. Discrete Next Day Delivery

Trojan Safety Systems Ltd Comercial Fire Alarm Systems etc

JimB

Maybe sense the outbreak of kids asking silly questions on the forum, it was a good idea?

Perhaps! :D

Personally some of the things that get asked here would have me leaning toward them advertising a Dr Jack Kevorkian kit.

**broken link removed**

He looks so happy and honest so why wouldn't you want to buy what he is selling? :p

This advertisement is provided by Google Adsense and I believe ETO does not select what to display but can choose not to display specific adds such as porn, competition, etc...

So what you see in the add which is different for everyone is based on your recent search activity on Google :p and also based on the forum's topics.

So whats a good add blocker or pop up blocker program to use these days? I have tried running Firefox before but never liked the way it worked.

Still cant see how they got condoms out of what I regularly look at.
(Unless they have a hidden camera at Walmart and saw me make a wrong turn and go down that isle last week.)

Thanks Nigel but I don't have a clue how to make it work with windows 7.

I did the download and install as they explained it and it worked for one screen here and that was it.

I've not tried it on Win7, only XP and Vista, where it works perfectly.

But according to the website Win7 is easier than Vista, did you get the completed prompts it mentions?.

Nice thing about it, it's not a program or anything, just a text file that's already a part of Windows.

hi,
I downloaded your link, its looks OK, not installed it yet.
I am a little concerned about the disclaimer regarding the third party involvement the disclaimer.
What do you think.??

I use Google Chrome with the Adblock extension. Works seamlessly, doesn't slow the browser one bit. Best of all, it blocks the ads inside youtube videos!

Looks like a standard sort of disclaimer that they aren't responsible for content not on their site.

A simple hosts file is all you need.

Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File

I've been running this for a good while now, it's absolutely excellent - I don't see any ads here.

I've tried the hosts file you suggested and it does work very well (XP SP3 + Firefox) however, it also blocks 100% of all Google adds which is not so good. I admit some Website owners tend to have these adds all over the place and try their best to make them look like the content of the website they are on but in the case of ETO the adds occupy only a small space on top and bottom where it does not affect the forum content nor the browsing experience.

It is a rule from Google for the Web owner where these adds resides not to ask people to click on them but since I am not the owner or related to any revenues this forum makes I figured I am not braking any rules.

In fact when someone clicks on one of these adds it generates a very small revenue for the forum owner which I think is fair for his work. Also the adds are based on the site content and people's recent browsing topics so they are of proper category.

just my 2 cents,

Mike

I've never had any problems with ads here, however, another forum I frequent has a LOT more intrusive adverts, and the final straw was when they started inserting adverts within the posts as well. So that was what prompted me to investigate a solution.

I don't mind the adds here one bit and I just found the Trojan condom add rather out of place compared to the rest of what I normally see here thats all. :D

As far as other web site yes I definitely would like to have an add blocker going for those. Some of the U-tube stuff drives me nuts.

Since when are condoms called PORN?
They are simply one of the oldest and worst methods of birth control.
My kids are 29 and 31 so I got fixed 28.8 years ago. "The pill" for my wife stopped me from using condoms for many years before I got fixed.

I've no idea why it was even worth mentioning?, I see nothing wrong with advertisng condoms here or anywhere else.

You weren't 'fixed' you were 'broken' :p
