Stolz ICD2 Trouble

Hello All
I'm having trouble with my Stolz's ICD2. I've built the circuit on his site,
programmed the BL010101 boot loader in to the 16F876, and I'm using
MPLAB 6.60v. Disabled FIFO buffers, and rebooted PC. Tried to download ICD2 operating system, only to get error messages ICD0021, ICD0024,
and ICD0084. Basically it will not connect or load operating system.

The 16f876 is defintly programmed with the bootloader. My power seems
correct, VPP is about 13.4 to 14 VDC. The VDD is 4.95 VDC. The only
thing not excalty like Stolz's ICD2 is I used two axial caps in place of radial(ran out of radial caps). Would this cause any issues?
Any thoughts or suggestions are very welcomed.

Thanks in advance
Gordon

Which caps? Since you are talking about a pair, it's either the two electrolytics near the regulator or the two discs used with the crystal. If their type and values are close, you should be fine.

- is your crystal 20 MHz? no other value can be used
- do your voltages around the MAX232 chip look good?
- have you checked your connections at least 5 times each?

In your next post, could you paste MPLAB's actual output when you get the errors?

In what part of the world is "Davison"?

The caps in question are part of the MAX232 circiut. 2 radial with a
value of 1uF, and 2 axial with a value of 1uF.
The crystal is a 20Mhz resonator.
Besides VDD and VSS(ground) what voltages am I looking for on the
MAX232 circiuit?
I'll check my connections again, maybe something got missed or over-
looked.

Heres a "copy and paste" of the screen shot of MPLAB.

Davison is in Michigan USA, don't list in in my location because I"M NOT A

Hi All
What kind of issues did you guys have when you made your ICD2s.
Did it work right away or did you have variuos troubles.
Thanks for the comm port tip Jay. I'll try it again.

Gordon

My ICD2clone worked on first power-up, the only problem I had was with MPLAB (it kept forgeting COM port setting), but it's ok now. I used Stolz design with some improvements ("Transistor tree" and power source).
