Yes my question has been answered - thanks for the help guys. It didn't seem like there should be a problem, but I have heard rumours that Canada pays the US to take its surplus electricity off of its hands. I've never understood how that could possibly make sense, so I wondered if there was something in the area of power production that I was unaware of.
 

Dams in Canada like the PNW dams have to release water from spring flows. Spilling water over the dam mixes in too much gas and kills fish so we like to send it to the turbines instead causing excess power capacity. To keep the generation system in balance power is given away or money is paid so others will buy it to keep base-load production stable. This has caused a wind/hydro power war in the last few years.
