Thoughts and ideas - Sensing motion

Hey guys, I'm currently working on a project, and have stumbled on a issue i can't wrap my head around. Therefore i would appreciate if you had any ideas or thoughts.

Here Comes my problem:

Imagine 2 people walking towards you they are walking in a straight path and they are just beside each other. I would like to measure the speed of each of the persons forward motion.

It has to measure at least 6 meters ahead.

Why does it have to measure 6 meters ahead?

if I say that its a requirement for what I'm working with would that i can measure the persons speed from a range of 6 meters would that be enough?

A laser rangefinder can do that.
