A few days our television (Philips 43PFS5803 smart tv) 'exploded'. It was simply playing and all of a sudden there was a very audible 'bang' and everything was black. We opened it up and saw this:
Note the damaged resistor but also note the blue capacitor with the hole in it. I wonder if that capacitor could be the cause of this malfunction and if so why? Do you think replacing the capacitor, resistor and possible the diode left of the resistor would fix this? Or are all these things simply a symptom of another problem?
The capacitor is almost certainly the cause - they VERY commonly fail in this manner (they are pretty crappy capacitors!). 'Generally' replacing the capacitor and the resistor (and possibly a fuse?) will cure the set.
Ok, thanks for that reply. Do you have any idea how we can identify that capacitor? We only have a part number but there is no readable text on it so we don't know what capacity it has. Thanks
