Typical Application Connection IRAMX20UP60A

Looking into the datasheet of the IRAMX20UP60A, I found a typical application connection which I am trying to understand. I attach a picture of the application circuit. The part inside the black square is what I don't understand. As far as I understand, if a low signal goes into the base of the transistor, the pin 21 (Itrip) is active high. According to the datasheet, if this pin is high, the device is shut down. My question is: Since I do not need that kind of protection, can I go without it and just plug pin 21 (Itrip) to ground to keep the device on?
