I came across this site with lots of 18F code Hi-Tech C not C18
The USB serial port demo on this page works like a charm.

The .hex file will work on an unmodified Unicorn, and the XP CDC (Com port) driver can also be found in the FW directory.
Hyperterminal will repeat endlessly...
