Hey all,

I recently purchased a Texas Instruments DCP02 series 24vdc to 5vdc switching regulator from Digikey Datasheet

I was under the assumption that this would get my voltage level down to 5vdc but I am not getting those results. when powered at 24vdc input, I am getting closer to 7.5vdc output.

I am connecting it with a .47uf cap across the Vsupply and Com line and a 1uf cap across the +Vout and 0V line.

Any ideas why this would not return 5vdc output as advertised??

Thanks for any help.

Hi eckcotech,

you must have overlooked a small, but important detail in the data sheet.

Those DC/DC converters have all an unregulated output.

Output voltage depends on the load current.

If you measure 7.5V at idle (no load) the voltage is higher than expected. It's the same with any unregulated AC/DC-adapter you plug into the wall outlet.

If you want exactly 5V output use a VLDO (very low dropout) voltage regulator at the output of the converter.

Boncuk
