It's similar to a small jewelers flat screw driver very small and thin but that part of it is broken off and missing

Could you cut a small bit of eg. thin brass strip, heat it up and push that in to the plastic to recreate the "blade"?

That's a great idea and just might work. I have the knob and it's already broken, it won't hurt to try. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks rjenkinsgb
