what could i use a Universal mono pre amplifier for?

That's kind of a weird question, universal means multipurpose. Depends on it's specs as to what you could actually use it for.
 
i wouldnt say it was a weird question! the specs are

freq range = 20Hz - 20KHz
output impedance = 1 Kohm
max input level = 40mv
power supply = 10-30VDC/10mA
 
Well there's your answer! You can use it to amplify signals between 20Hz and 20KHz if they are below 40 mv and you give it a power supply in the 10 to 30 volt range.
 
It's a PRE amp not an amp p88. For driving speakers you'd need a power amp. That amplifier is only useful for taking small signals such as a microphone or other very low voltage device and amplifying the voltage to usable levels while providing enough output impedance to drive a small power amp. That amplifier will produce no noticeable sound when connected to speakers or if it does it will be horribly distorted from being overloaded.

If you're looking for a small stereoamplfier for an ipod you should be able to find them online VERY cheap. Well cheaper than you could general buy the components for one yourself.
