What is the difference

If I use PWM to control a DC motor or use a microcontroler to turn the power on and off fast. Both are controlling the amount of current the motor recieves, therefore the amount of power to be generated.

Most likely a dumb question, but had to ask.

Please tell what do you actually mean with "PWM".

A micro can be used to implement PWM.

Pwm

Pulse width modulation.

Yes, I know that some microcontrollers can handle PWM. I am trying to figure out what would be the difference as the motor sees it, as well as the draw backs or advantages of either.

Thanks for you input and question.

Thanks

Thanks for the confirming what I believed would be the answer.

I guess it all depends on the application of the process and what else is going on at the time.

It is nice to be able to double check ones thinking! Thanks again.

Motor cant tell if the PWM was generated by a uC or by a 555
