I bought a job lot from a reclaim broker and among the items are two units which look new and unused. They are made by CODAN and appear to be some sort of power supplies for Satellite broadcast equipment. One I've indentifed as a 6850 BUC, an AC to DC converter apparently...
The other is a SSPA Hub-mount, whatever that is. I can't udentify it in their brochures. It is marked SSPA HUB MOUNT 120W C-BAND W/G OUTPUT BAND 2 and is vented either side due to the cooling fans it requires.
Ideally, I'd like to sell them on to their intended market but I find it hard to imagine I'd find a buyer for this specialist equipment (but if I did, they'd be getting a real bargain!)
They are very old uplink Tx amp for C band. Used to be used by TV feed uplinks, like football games. Most have converted to Ku band use although football uplinks still sometimes use C band to avoid possible rain outage common to Ku feeds.
I would have thought there'd be some suggestions from the experts - what about if I hacked the PSU or even broke it for "spares" (not that I'm keen to break what is obviously a good condition and presumably fully working unit)? I assume there's some expensive or heavy duty components/circuitry inside.
For instance, could I use the PSU as an AC/DC convertor for household use - test equipment, LED lighting, portable applications etc?
