Effective March 5, 1999, Intel announced the discontinuation of interactive peripheral component support. All interactive phone, email, and forum support for peripheral components was discontinued.
Intersil still manufactures and markets the 82C55A, probably for legacy system repairs and third world 'electronics' professors.
Discontinuing support isn't always a bad thing; from 1979 to 1999 all possible questions about the 8255A and 82C55A had been asked and answered. Since Intel no longer made the part, there would be no new bugs.
