Which Transformer to use

I am building a tesla coil 20 inches tall 4 in diameter. I am working on a variable fan spark gap, I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do for the cap bank. I need to know which tranformer to use. A friend is helping me and we are splitting the cost our budget is around $40 each for if we need to buy a NST. We were also thinking of using MOTs, probably 2-4 of them for maybe around $20. Would MOTs be a good choice or should we go ahead and buy one NST. I need some input of which would be better.

For my tesla coil I used an old flyback transformer and made caps out of beer bottles filled with saltwater.

Pilsener or Lager caps?
