Will this circuit work? Instantaneous release of energy.

I'm trying to charge and instantaneously release the stored energy (upon button press) in a bank of capacitors (rated at 300v 4.4uF DC). The input will be 120v/115v AC.

So the circuitry will be converting the AC to DC through a full wave rectifier, then stepping up the voltage to 280V at a sacrifice of current.

Will the attached circuit diagram work?

Yes, your circuit will work.

However,
you dont need the 1H inductor. If your idea is to limit the surge current into a discharged capacitor, just use a 10ohm resistor, 2 watt rating will be fine.
Your description of operation is a bit off and shows a lack of understanding of basic electrical theory.
Instantaneous discharge, mmm? Depending on the load, you could end up welding the contacts of your relay as the capacitor discharges into the load.

But yes, the circuit will work.

Well I know it's not instantaneous discharge... just a large charge discharged really quick. A virtual test run showed the attached results.

Yes, it is true I don't have quite a lot of knowledge in electronic circuitry... :/

You might try playing with an old strobe light flash first.

To avoid the relay contact problem, typical set up is a relatively low power boost switcher supply to charge the cap over several seconds then an SCR is triggered to fire the charge. No need to worry about disconnecting the input boost charger.
