Windows 10 on an 10 yr old dell many issues maybe hardrive

I use computers but don't do much more.
Anything on the task bar has been hesitating. No no responce
Can't go to system.
Went to Microsoft see if I can update. There is a line there check for windows update
When I click on it another webs site opens untitled then goes away.the clock on the task bar stop at 7:10pm. It's now 9:15. I can open Google from the app but not from the task bar.
I can go to websites
Any safe programs I can run on my computer to test for issues?
On task manger
Memory 56% rest at 3% or less with no activity.
I did power it off then later back on no difference.
Software up to date
Any suggestions greatly appreciated

With a machine acting up like yours, hard to try and fix it directly. It could be hardware, a virus, or something else.
If you have access to another PC, there is a tool called Hiren's BootCD. You can burn that onto a USB stick (or DVD disk) and boot it directly on your machine. By booting an operating system without using your own Windows disk, you eliminate any possibility of booting any virus that may exist on your machine. Hiren's has tools like anti-virus scanners, disk drive utilities, etc. You scan your machine for viruses, malware and can test the status of your disk drive(s). That tool set also includes some backup utilities, among many other tools...

Try these, all have free versions:

ADWCleaner

CCleaner

Spybot search & destroy

Superantispyware

However before installing any of those, open command prompt and use

chkdsk C: /R
That will check for drive corruption, which can cause all sorts of strange problems.

After some time almost not using my Win 10 laptop, it started acting funny at start up.

Long story short, found out the C disk close to full. After replacing it with a new one (double capacity), problem was gone.
