wireless digital data transfer?

was thinking of building a custom PIC based alarm system for my home..and to make things easier, i was thinkin about having a central control panel, and then linkin it to the sensors wirelessly. the sensors would have digital outputs.basically 1 or 0.

is there anyway where you can transmit digital signals wireless?a simple way i mean?i know this mayb quite a bit a noob question..
