been looking last night to no avail so asking here.
i have a balcony that has 2 sliding doors open up to get to the balcony, i need a wireless device that i can attach to these doors, one a magnet on one door and a battery operated small device with reed switch on the other that transmits a signal 5m away to a receiver that is mains powered that will light a led on the receiver if the door is open and turns the led off when the door is closed.
battery usage must be minimal for this device.
anyone know anything that would be suitable for this?

These are the neatest wireless sensors I know of; however they are Zigbee devices for use with home automation & need a central system of some sort to connect to. (I use Home Assistant, which is totally free software).

You can get them on ebay, amazon etc. There is also an 04P version, slightly larger with five year battery life.

can they be hooked up to an Arduino board somehow?
No; you could use a Raspberry Pi with a Zigbee adapter - that can then run Home Assistant & give you many useful capabilities.
