Hi All,
I'm going to find myself made redundant in a couple of months, so I thought I would have a go asking here to see if anyone knows of any upcoming vacancies.
I'd describe myself as a "junior design engineer" kind of skill level, and something of a jack-of-all-trades. For the last year or so I've been working on embedded systems and relatively simple digital designs in the scientific/agricultural/environmental field. Prior to that I was in design at a hi-fi/pro audio manufacturer for a few years, and, before that in pro audio/lighting (and associated stuff) repairs.
- I've done a fair bit of embedded programming and C for PCs, and some other odds and ends of programming, although I've no formal training in software engineering.
- I've designed the typical digital stuff one does for embedded systems; I2C. SPI, IO interfaces and drivers etc., but nothing in terms of high speed LVDS, memory interfaces etc.
- I'm a half decent analogue designer (mostly at AF), probably better than many embedded/digital systems engineers, but certainly not exceptional (and probably a bit rusty, too).
- I've played a bit with RF and power converters as hobby projects.
- Having worked in repairs, I've got a fairly good idea about how things fail and what makes them easy to fix.
My degree is in Audio Technology, and I've got the IPCC CID printed circuit layout qualification.
I'm located in Aberystwyth in mid-Wales and, having not long moved here, re-locating is not an option at the moment - so I'm looking for opportunities to work remotely (I'm already in touch with the few employers around here who might have an opening for me). I've got a reasonably well-equipped workshop at home.
A long shot, I know, but it cost nothing to ask.
Thanks for reading.
[Edit: I've changed the name of the thread to avoid disappointing anyone who saw it and thought it might be an offer of work]
