I want to do nigels tutorials and am ordering a couple of pics but rapid online only have the 16F627A from what I see in the datasheet this is the same as the F628A only that it has half the program memory will it do for the starter stuff ?

Yes, as long as you don't need more then the 1K - I'm not sure if any tutorials do?, the only likely one is the 8x8 LED matrix, because it uses a lot of tables.

hm what about the 16F648A ? it has twice the program memory the 16F627A has
