I for one would like to tip my hat to you for a truly awesome piece of detective work. Collectively we hypothesized, and you tested and rejected numerous explanations. Your scope pictures tell a different story than the one depicted in the data sheets.

At the very least Micochip should give you the Croix de guerre and the Legoin d'honneur.

I wonder if the pause is where the 9th bit would be?
If you set it to be 9 bit does it then resemble the data sheet?
