3500W 220V Power Supply???

It would have to be a really big rectifier!

Not really. There are 30 amp 600 volt rated ones that come in standard TO-220 case styles that would only need at most a heat sink capable of dissipating 10 - 15 watts in this type of application. The problem though is when taking half wave power off of your mains at higher power levels it tends to cause odd line noise and other interference that starts manifesting itself in other devices.
