Well if i remember my early days on the Atmels this chips can only be programmed in parrallel mode which makes it a beast to work with (no in circuit programming) but I beleive Atmel has released a AT89 S 2051 as it is replacement which is serial uploadable maybe buy the new chip and grab there firmaware update software ... check the atmel site for more info.
