I was mooching around Maplin today, and I went over to the specialist battery section and saw, for the first time, an A23 12v battery - I think there was an A27 too. I immediately started wondering if they would be any use for powering a 12v RGB LED strip and whether they could replace DC power for things that I don't want wires connected to... like the LEDs I'm currently inserting in the back of photo frames.

I didn't buy one, as it was £3.49 or something daft, but they're a lot cheaper on Amazon. If I really wanted to power 12v LED strips from batteries, what would be the best way I could go about it?

In the past I've just a single 9v PP3 to power them at a slightly lower brightness and it actually ran for some useful amount of time... not like a couple of hours or anything daft.

I would definitely check the datasheet of the battery to see what kind of current you can draw before it drops to below the LED strips Vf.
