are you supposed to fully discharge before charging

i ask as i do not get the life i expect out of my aa,s

i.e

2/3 years with i would say recharging every 2 to 3 weeks

i recharge when the camera states getting low

i may be totally wrong but iv got the phase inherent memory stuck in my mind

or my expectations of battery life are way out

i would expect 500 recharges at least,,so 26 charges a year means a lot of life

note

i use

ENERGIZER 2300mah

thanks in advance for any help

Are they NiCd or NIMH? - NiCd suffered from 'memory effect', NiMH supposedly don't.

However, people seem to have exaggerated ideas of battery life, a core part of our business is replacing NiMh (and Li-Ion) batteries in various professional equipment, in all case where the charging is controlled by specialist charging IC's.

As long as it's a proper "intelligent" charger, you do not need to discharge before recharging.

However, lightly used nickel based batteries do suffer from memory effect - including some NiMH types, in my experience.

The "fix" is to totally discharge them in something that does not shut down - eg. a small torch/flashlight that uses a filament bulb (not LED).
It must be done to each cell separately, to avoid damage to other cells.

If you cannot find a single cell torch, use a two cell with a single rechargeable and a dummy cell.
Leave it turned on for several days or even a week, for each cell. Then recharge them all and the capacity should have improved.

Example dummy cells; plastic spacers with contacts to complete the circuit through them:

Or you can use AA cell holders with a ten ohm half watt resistor connected directly across each holder.

Energizer AA rechargeables are Ni-MH, I have used them for years. The 2300mAh ones are made in Japan using the modern Eneloop chemistry from Sanyo/Panasonic .The Eneloop chemistry holds a charge for at least one year allowing the battery cells to be sold pre-charged.

I have had trouble with some cells not lasting and Energizer sent me coupons for replacements a few times.
I tried Duracell Ni-MH batteries but the ones sold at Cosco are made in China and have half the mAh of Energizer and other Name Brands.

Maybe Energizer is Out Of business now because they cannot be reached online for at least one week:

Wow. Fatalistic attitude much? If Energizer was out of business, I'm sure it would be big news.

Me thinks you're having a network issue, because Energizer.com is very much alive and well.

I cannot reach energizer.com on Microsoft Bing, Google Chrome and Opera browsers. The problem is listed on Google and I tried Reset Dns and Renew Dns steps then Restart which did not fix it.

It's fine from the UK as well.

Change your DNS to manual and use 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4
That will probably get things working properly.

A lot of ISPs have been having erratic DNS problems for the last few years, with parts of the internet vanishing and reappearing from DNS lookups.

I think this is may be down to a gradual changeover to secure / encrypted DNS protocols & things getting messed up in the process?
There are several different system standards.

and others.

Canada is obviously been blocked from the rest of the world

Didn't Trump build a big wall along the border?

Where is and how do I change DNS settings?

www.energizer.com and www.energizer.ca are the only websites that I cannot reach using a few different browsers.
Looking at the problem in Google, Microsoft says to "check for the latest updates". I did and my Microsoft updates are up-to-date. Maybe the latest Microsoft update causes my problem?

Here is what happens:

it is working fine here in London Ontario, must be a internal issue, or you are a rogers customer.

Nawww. a microsoft update would never cause a problem, but i wouldnt know since i shut mine off

I cleared "browsing data" from Bing and Chrome browsers. I still cannot reach Energizer on Bing and Chrome.

YEA! I switched my Opera Browser from DNS to HTTPS and now it and Bing can go to Energizer's website.
When I click on Google Chrome browser I get Bing browser instead but it does not matter since it works.
Thanks guys.

Are you sure it's not a fake Chinese site impersonating Energizer whom they caused to fail with their cheap rice-filled batteries? Maybe they want to take over your computer to keep you from posting? It's hard to be safe these days.

Energizer Ni-MH batteries are made in Japan using modern Eneloop chemistry.
Some Duracell Ni-MH batteries sold at Costco are made in China with half the mAh of good batteries (half filled with rice like some Chinese Li-Ion batteries shown on you Tube).
