I have found a pair of 3 way passive crossovers and they are equiped with this protection (i assume) circuit for the high frequency driver.

I dont have a spice model for BY228 so i used a regular rectifier diode but all i get is a slight attenuation of the input signal. Looking at the datasheet for BY228 i see its a damper diode. Can anyone explain what a damper diode is and what this circuit is supposed to do?
