Any ideas for waterproof switches

Quality, sealed switches for boats are really expensive. I need about 8 of them and they are 28 bucks a piece. Does anyone have an idea for homemade waterproof switches? I was thinking something like two metal reeds inside vinyl tubing. When the tube is squeezed with a clamp the reeds close the circuit. Anyone have any ideas?

thanks

Are the switches to be installed in panels, in-line, on surface ? What current is expected ? What is the preferred actuator; toggle, slide, rotary, push, momentary, ... ?

The switches will be installed on a panel above the water line. Any type of switch is fine except momentary since the accessories need to be powered on for a long time. Each circuit will carry 3 or less amps.
Thanks

There are simple rubber boot covers that go on over normal switch's that give them full severe service and outdoor service ratings. All you need to do then is make sure what they are mounted into is water tight as well. Digikey has them in the search function as a toggle switch boot. And they are around $3 and up.

Ideas, ideas... Let's see... Please read thoroughly, there is a lot of time dedicated to this response.
Marine equipment will cost you extra. Agree that the extra is usually too much. Your concern may be the front, the back, or both, and if it is VERY exposed to splash or somewhat protected in the cabin.

Homemade, plain multiple push-on / push off switches or rocker switches are good to install on a panel behind a clear not-molded silicone window. Allows handling and visual, blocking all splashes. The switches bodies in the back will always need attention with some cover.

Think of the keyboard splash protective overlays. Apply the principle to frame a flat sheet on top of all panel switches:

Perhaps you can buy a sample from:

Something like this spare part could be shoehorned to your needs:

As these are multiple, it is not that much painful:

To make something cheaper and reasonably durable, you can use the boots for the actuators and plain silicone in all crevices of the switch body behind the panel.
