Here is a Easy circuit that produces a tone at the output.
There are alot of uses for this little circuit.
For example If you replace the Resistor with a Variable Resistor it will change the frequency.
None of the components are Criticle.
Any PNP and NPN will work Fine. The original used a TO3 Transistor for the PNP so it would be louder.
The circuit works on 1.5 volts to about 12 volts without any problems.
Different Variations of this circuit can be made. Replace the switch with a wire.
You could use a large capacitor and it becomes a pulse generator.
You could put a transformer on the output instead of the speaker and it becomes a voltage Inverter. The larger the PNP transistor The Higher the current it will handle.
It is a Basic Oscillator Circuit with Unlimited uses.
It makes a great piece of Test Equipment as well. It is a Signal Tracer for Audio Amplifier testing or an Audiable Continuity Tester for tracing wires.
Hook a light bulb to it and it becomes a Lamp Flasher with a larger Capacitor.
Hook a Relay to it and it is a Relay controller. WOW what a circuit!

I reckon this circuit could be used as a mozzie zapper. My mate said he made one years ago and the correct oscilliation is 29khz. He said it only used 2 transistors and 1 resisistor and 1 cap. mmmm might be time to try for that frequency

Thanks heaps hot
