Dc volts to computer program

I'm a little new to electronics and I need help. I have a wind meter that generates dc volts. Could anybody help me write up a program (preferably for linux) that will read dc volts or MPH and log it. And what is needed for the computer to read the information from the wind meter? Any schematics would be appreciated. Please help!

You need an ADC between the meter and computer to convert DC voltage into a digital code to read into the computer's serial port.

what is the range of dc volts ,& max o/p volts .use an adc to convert it to digital form and store it. if you need conversion etc a 12f675 will suit your need .
