Difference between 2N3055 & TIP3055

whats the different between 2N3055 & TIP3055 ? I went through the pdf's its containing almost the same characteristics. Is it Due to the mounting purposes they have built 2packages......already I'm using mostly TIP's Bcuz easy to mount.

As you say, the basic difference is the package - however, the plastic package has a lower dissipation rating (90W as against 115W).
