I am quite new to elec.

I wanna make a race clock which detects persons crossing the line and stops counting. The device should be capable of recording times of more than 1 people...(beam interruption may b used) to an accuracy of 0.1s. (We can assume there is no overlap of runners).
Is a microcntroller necessary for this? If so where can I get the codes for such a process...Basically how to record more than 1 interruptions??
