Hi all,
My HP laptop suddenly just died. Nothing shown on screen and red light when charger is connected. I’ve done the basic tests to understand the problem and is down to a faulty motherboard. Apparently is common to have a diode burnout in Hp laptops…

On the diode/continuity mode on my Multimeter:
The first diode (107 0J) on the photo I get a reading in one direction and no reading when I switch the poles - so Diode is OK,

However the other 2 diodes ( my multimeter beeps in both directions!? Are they both faulty or is this a type of diode that let current flow in both ways?

Much appreciated!

The diodes could be short, or it could just be reading through another part of the circuit - you could remove them, and test them out of circuit.

You using the multimeter diode range on the resistance range choices ?

Test out of circuit best. But many circuits will test a diode IN circuit OK, depends on design.

Caps usually take out diodes and regulators.
