I did not do anything special to install it. Just ran the installer whatever it was.Hey guys, how do you install it (Hi-Tech) into MPLAB?
I am going to attempt reinstalling MPLAB 8.14. (It is what I was using).

I know that was the case for BoostC but I do not recall if there was one for Hi-Tech.I seem to remember an option box that needed ticking in order to integrate into MPLAB, it was a while ago when I installed it and so I could be mistaken.
Mike.
I am all set now
I can compile C programs for pic16F628A using Hi-Tech and for PIC18F1320 using C18. All this from within MPLAB. I am finally getting the feel of microcontrolers the way I wanted it.
Are you installing an older lite product? Now that I have MPLAB back I a going to give the HI-Tech install another try.The latest release (v9.60PL2) of HI-TECH C® PRO for the PIC10/12/16 MCU Family includes Lite mode
MPLAB 8.14 now installed.
The Hi-Tech toolsuite still doesn't show up in the pick list for a 16F628/A device.
I downloaded Hi-Tech PICC-Lite 960PL2 and installed it on my hard drive last week. Is there some other step I need to do for MPLAB to recognize it?
Also, the User Manual pdf included in 960PL2 is dated February 2008 and the 16F628/A isn't listed in the supported device list. Is there a more up to date list of supported devices?
Mike
Yeah I installed it yesterday as well and see the same behaviour. Looks like they overwrite MPLAB config files rather than appending/updating them.
Good thing is that I was able to compile a led blink C program for PIC16F628 with it. I am yet to burn a PIC with it and see if it really works
I had system restore turned off so I don't have that option. Also seems Hi-Tech support requests are only allowed for paying customers so that's not an option.
The "dhenry" user over on Forum.Microchip was really helpful (not)...
It seems that Hi-Tech C compiler has gone free now for ALL PIC10/12/16 and not just the baselines. Just that optimizations and stuff is disabled but then if optimizations were important, one would code in assembly.
Seems like I will finally be able to write in C for PIC16F628
Has anyone tried this before ? any reviews ?
