If you want to control the speed of a simple universal sewing machine motor similar to these and do it simple and easy I suggest you Google "sewing machine foot rheostat". Most universal motors like this are brush typr motors and run on AC or DC. They use a carbon pile rheostat for speed control placed in series with the motor. Will it lift or pull a 5 kg weight? I doubt it unless it is geared. I don't know what the torque would be as it would depend on the motor.
