IR detection by band pass filter

hi all
im designing a infra red emitter and detector the emitter is being ocillated at 38KHz thats the easy part i did that with a 555 timer but the porblem is i cant get any three terminal receivers that most people use
can i detect the signal with a band pass filter can any one tell me how
 
The bandpass filter will not detect the signal, but will reject unwanted signals, such as sunlight. a simple high pass- low pass will do, see below:
