Hi there

Im currently upgrading my laptop (acer extensa 5220) after purchasing a 320Gb hard drive for it, i want to upgrade the Ram. The Ram is currently 512mb 1.86Ghz (ddr2). Now im looking at a 2Gb ram but its only at 667Mhz.

Now my quiry is, is it better to have the bigger memory but less Hz or less memory but more Hz? Would their be much difference?

THANKS

Check the spec in the instruction book for the laptop, if should say what speed RAM it needs - don't use lower speed than it says, or you may well get (more) intermittent crashing (if it runs at all).

I've just bought two Sony Vaio laptops - 250Gb HDD, 3Gb RAM, Vista - christmas presents for my wife and daughter.

Ok ive found some compatible RAM (Hynix 2gb ddr2). After doing a crucial scan at Memory upgrades from Crucial.com - About Crucial:Media Toolbox

(Results)
# Maximum Memory Capacity: 2048MB
# Currently Installed Memory: 512MB
# Available Memory Slots: 1
# Number of Banks: 2
# Dual Channel Support: No
# CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
# CPU Family: Intel Pentium II processor Model 6, Stepping 1
# CPU Speed: 1862 MHz

Now it has 2 memory banks but its not Dual channel supported?
The scanner says that the two slots can take 1gb ram max. would it effect it if i put the 2gb RAM in 1 slot?
Also with the spare 512mb ram(currently installed) could i put it in the 2nd slot even though it does not support dual channel aswell as it exceeding the Max memory capacity (2048mb).
Would this damage my computer? would it work?

Also purchase a laptop hardrive 320gb (my old one 80gb), is thier a limit on the amount of hardrive you can put in? or aslong as it fits it will work.

I know its alot of questions but im really interested to see if my purchases were a waste.

Thanks
