Please help with the following two question about resistors:

1) Do resistors serve the same role as circuit breakers on a much smaller scale?

2) I am trying to connect an LCD module (https://www.electro-tech-online.com/custompdfs/2010/12/LCM-S01602DTR20M.pdf) but I do not fully understand how to read the wiring schematic. What size resistor is required for pins 7-14 and do any other pins require a resistor? The ports will be controlled by a pic16f690 and supplied with a 5 volt power source.

No.

Check my PIC tutorials for how to connect it, and how to program it.
