LM386 issues

Hi Guys....

I am new to these forums so i hope i have this post in the right section, i just built a FM receiver with a LM386 to amplify my signal, i had a problem with it making a terrible squealing sound, i found a circuit for an LM386 amplifier and it showed extra capacitors added, one across the supply rail and one from pin 1 to pin 8, i added these and all is relatively quiet now, the problem i am having is that i get no output untill i scope the input, (pin3) then i can hear music and talking from the radio circuitry, can i just add a small capacitor from pin 3 to ground to replace the scope probes capacitance or is there something else going on? I have been away from electronics for 24 years so am a little rusty :)
