LTspice problem

Thank you for replying Torben.

Bingo! :D:D:D

It now runs

I would like to go looking on the web and get a load of models that i dont have right now, must i always have an include line for these downloaded models everytime i want to use one? Or is there some way to make them like the models that come with LTspice and you just go component and select the one you want?

Morning Torben,
Used your description, now have the original model file working.

For some reason yesterday it would not work as its set out today.

I must have been making a typo somewhere.

Thanks for the input, be good.:)

Regards

Hi Eric!

Getting typos is easier for me than being good. But I will try anyway. :)

Hope you are well,

Torben

hi Torben,

This site has just under 8000 Spice models.

Its a site deisgned for 'younger' engineers.

**broken link removed**

Only around 8000, well i guess thats a start. Thank you for the link.

But is there a way to save those models without having to add an include line on my schematic everytime i use one?

I would like to just be able to press 'component' and select a downloaded model and then place it in my schematic and do no more :)

you can take everything from .model to the end of the file, and copy/paste it into the standard.bjt file. then you don't even need any spice directive to use it. it will come up in the list when you open a "change transistor type" window.

Thank you for replying unclejed

Can i confirm a few things because i tried to do what you said and it didnt work.

Is the standard.bjt file found in LTspiceIV\lib\cmp ?
When i pasted into this file i go to save and i get the error message:

Access to C:\program Files\LTC\LTspiceIV\lib\cmp\standard.bjt was denied

As shown in my attachment

hi,
Ive tried this method, it works OK.:)

It sounds as though the *.bjt maybe 'read' only or you dont have the full Admin rights to change the file. Thats a function of Windows.

Looking at the image, I would say you need to check 'adminstrators rights' in Vista

hi,
I would recommend that you make a backup copy of any of the 'cmp' files, before you change them.

Use the edited version for testing.

It does not give me the option of clicking 'details' under the general heading (as shown in 1st screen shot)

But under security heading i can see permission status which i am assuming is what it wanted me to do? and i see that i have full permission at the moment anyway (screen shot 8)

I have posted my settings.
As I dont use Vista, I have to give XP examples.:)

Access the Control Panel window.

I haven't read the entire thread, but here is how I add transistor models to LTspice:
1. Make sure LTspice is not open.
2. Copy this portion of the model file:
Code:
.MODEL Qbc847bpdw1t1-npn npn
+IS=1.02883e-10 BF=3441.88 NF=1.5 VAF=50.4069
+IKF=0.0513316 ISE=6.57032e-12 NE=1.90684 BR=11.3392
+NR=1.5 VAR=2.18491 IKR=0.513316 ISC=1e-16
+NC=4 RB=0.117532 IRB=0.100021 RBM=0.100913
+RE=0.376664 RC=1.88332 XTB=50 XTI=4
+EG=1.05 CJE=9.22073e-12 VJE=0.680201 MJE=0.85
+TF=5.8626e-10 XTF=3.3324 VTF=7.33802 ITF=0.210664
+CJC=4.07024e-12 VJC=0.95 MJC=0.347426 XCJC=0.800007
+FC=0.114115 CJS=0 VJS=0.75 MJS=0.5
+TR=1e-07 PTF=0 KF=0 AF=1
3. With Notepad, open the file C:\Program Files\LTC\LTspiceIV\lib\cmp\standard.bjt, move the cursor to the bottom of the file, and paste the model that you just copied.
4. Save the file.

Start LTspice and open a new or existing schematic window.
Place an NPN symbol on the schematic.
Right-click on the NPN symbol and select Pick New Transistor.
A window will open with all available NPN models.
The new model name should be at the bottom of the list.
Highlight
it and click OK.

Thank you for replying Roff

I did as you say but when i go to save i get the error message shown in screen print 9

Then when i press ok on that error message i get the 'save as' box as shown in scrren print 10

then when i try to save it anyway i get another error message shown on screen print 12

Hey confounded,

What are the permissions on the cmp/ directory? That could also be your problem.

Regards,

Torben

Thank you for replying Torben

The cmp directory was on read only so i unchecked that but it still didnt work.
Then i thought why not make sure the entire LTspice folder is not on read only so i did and unchecked that too. Hope thats ok?

Well anyway I managed to save the cmp file in notepad :)

However when i open LTspice and right click on new transistor i do see the new transistor but its values of vceo and ic are zero :(

whats gone wrong ths time?
