1 Find a blind person

2 Ask "What features would you like incorporated into your walking stick!"

3 Repeat steps 1 and 2 several times

4 Sort through the answers to find the 2 or 3 most commonly requested features

5 Design the features

6 Build a prototype stick

7 Annoy the blind people again

8 Ask "What do you think of my modified stick?"

9 Write your project report

That's a novel requirement I've seen here:)

You can use ultrasonic proximity detector here. Do a research on this topic and I'll provide some interesting links:

Implement this circuit on a walking stick with earphones ins you ears. Close your eyes with a towel and proceed.................Good Luck anyway:p

This is something I would have done. It's a very wise advice and I would also suggest you that you will learn a lot by this method. It will give your brain a good workout session.

Well said JimB

What we are concerned about is the pit detection with minimum error. Obstacle detection does not seem much tough. But 'pit detection' that too with minmum error is defenitely confusing us . Can anyone suggest a good idea please...
And thanks for all of your responses.
