it's just a matrix (with rows and columns). on each "crossing"
you install device of your choice. Here is something very neat
for all audio freaks (don't remember where I found it):

There are various LED running message circuits. What exactly are you looking for? How big it will be?

thanks alot buddies spscially mixos
it was really useful links , but this displays use only the ROM memory to display a stored messages , i need if possible an interface with a standard keyboard or a keypad(matrix of switches)

Do yourself a favour and buy Z8 encore kit for US$49 (check www.zilog.com for details or just go to www.mouser.com and
buy it.)
It comes with 5 character LED matrix and enough memory.
It also includes C compiler with examples, book, power supply,
cable etc.

You can go for cheaper version ($39) but i think it has only
one UART and less memory. There is $99 version which comes
with ethernet.
