I went to the Apple web site. If you are using the phones that came with your ipod, they are 32 ohms.

EDIT: Are you saying you have ipod phones, but you don't have an ipod?

In my experience most common impedance for headphones seems to be 32R but I've seen 8R and 600R headphones before.
 
I don't have an I pod the pocket EQ/vu meter schematic I posted is for a college student (was a boy scout in my troop (I am the scoutmaster) that he, Chris wants to build.
Along with this build we have a 5 band TILT EQ/spectrum analyzer that he want to build as well.
Can post schematic to that if som,e one wants.
