opamp-digital potansiyometer-pic

Hi.We want to use an opamp,a digital potansiyometer and a pic.
We have small signal(like 10-100mV).We will drive this signal to opamp and than pic.But if this signal is bigger than the pic can read(If the signal is big,the pic became saturation),we will automatically decrease the gain of the opamp with digital potansiyometer.And we need a signal between 2V-2.5V..
İf our signal is smaller or bigger,it should aoutomatically change the opamps gain with the help of pic and digital potansiyometer.
Unfortunetly,we could not find any information about this aproach.Can any one help us about documents or ideas?
