Power boost?

Hey guys,

I have 4 NiMH AA's (4.8v) that's powering something that runs best on 6v. Is there anyway to boost ~5v to ~6v with the use of common parts? I don't want to buy any step-up converters, I need this power booster by today!

Thanks,
Skyler

Add another battery in series.

You see, I would like to do that, but I only have 4AA's, and I'm using a charger that can only charge 4 cells at once.

It is not possible with really "common" parts. There are capacitive charge pumps which can double the voltage at small currents, if you have one.

Other than that you need a boost converter. Requires an inductor at least. You generally need a special purpose part to do the switching.

Here's a simple and cheap step-up converter. It should cost you 2-4$.
